Mighty 38th, you have spoken and our Sussex County Council Members listened! Thank you everyone who sent emails, made phone calls, wrote letters to the editors and showed up at the County Council meetings to let our representatives know that offshore wind is not good for Delaware, is not a good source of reliable inexpensive energy, and is not good for our endangered coast wildlife. As noted in private emails from US Wind to ACT town mayors, US Wind does NOT like the grassroots activists of the 38th, and US Wind encouraged mayors to enlist the help of the paid out of state Sierra Club counter activists as needed to counter the voices of local citizens. Not cool US Wind, not cool.
Also noted, Orsted and their Skip Jack plans for offshore wind off the coast of Delaware has also been tanked, thanks to the efforts of New Jersey activists and representatives with the aid of Delaware's Caesar Rodney Institute Director, Dave Stevenson.
So what is next? Foreign owned US Wind, knowing the Sussex County Council was voting today and likely to rule against them, has still had their surveying vessels in the water in the Rehoboth Bay and off the coast, showing no signs of giving up. US Wind has the support and approval to proceed by Governor Carney and DNREC, two entities that should be standing to protect Delaware citizens and our natural resources, but have failed to do so. Incoming Governor Meyer, as a progressive climate change alarmist, is also not likely to protect Delaware and will support foreign owned US government subsidized US Wind in their bid to destroy our coast for money. But the tide is turning, and with President Donald J. Trump taking office very soon, there will be no federal support for offshore wind and even though BOEM has also approved offshore wind, they have lost their biggest supporter, lame duck President Biden. So go the winds of change.
With all of these plays on the field, US Wind is likely to sue Sussex County Council over their decision. But this will buy the good guys more time. So stay tuned, but in the mean time, well done Mighty 38th District Republican Activists!!
