First, I'd like to start off with a review of the meeting we had last Monday with candidate for US Congress, John Whalen. Mr. Whalen may have been speaking to a friendly Republican crowd, but in this crowd there were big supporters of his primary opponent, Donyale Hall, and the one thing the Mighty 38th is known for is not holding back on how they really feel and will ask the tough questions and hold our republican candidates and representatives accountable. And that's what we did, we asked John Whalen the tough questions, such as: how could he win against a democrat juggernaut with millions of dollars of out of state support, how would he address the transgender issue, where did he stand on deporting illegal residents and how did he propose this be funded.
Mr. Whalen, answered these questions, perhaps not entirely to the satisfaction of the group, but by the end, the Mighty 38th rallied behind Mr. Whalen, and started giving him their unsolicited advice on how to win, what to address and how to address touchy topics. And to Mr. Walen's credit, he listened, and even asked for more opinions and guidance from this seasoned group of conservative Republicans. We hope to see Mr. Whalen invited to speak to more Republican groups coming soon.
The District 4 Representative Dr. Jeff Hilovsky v. Socialist Democrat Gregg Lindner Debate
This moderated debate held Thursday night by the left leaning League of Women Voters, was a great opportunity to highlight the differences between the republican incumbent of District 4, Dr. Jeff Hilvosky, and the socialist democrat challenger. One minor pet peeve of mine, was that the moderator did not address Dr. Hilovsky as "doctor", but rather "mister".
During the course of the evening, what struck me the most, was how genuinely caring a person Dr. Hilovsky is. His compassion was clearly evident when he spoke of veteran concerns, children failing in our schools, and his strong push for financial literacy education for high school graduates. His attitude of service and advocacy span his entire life, from being a military physician and private practice optometrist, to his dedication to his family, grandchildren and to his patients, as well as his willingness to be a sitting representative, running for office, and doing that hard work, instead of resting on his laurels and being indifferent to the plight of those who really need a voice and an advocate. Representative Dr. Hilovsky is that advocate! His challenger on the other hand, referenced himself mostly and his personal business accomplishments, and referred to himself as a "numbers guy" repeatedly, aka "trust the science" mantra, and wanted to bring his out-of-state attitude and solutions to Delaware in a way that just does not makes sense here. Gregg Lindner replicates the attitude of those who move here for our wonderful way of life, but then immediately want to change it to what they had just left, for the worst. It boggles the mind.
The Issues
The debate was a well attended event, with about two thirds of the room comprised of conservatives, with the 38th and Sussex GOP well represented. The other one third of the rooms were radical social democrats. Unclear if there were independents present.
Socialist Democrats' Top Priority is Abortion Rights
What was also evident from this debate is what is clearly a top priority for socialist democrats: top number one issue is what they call reproductive rights. That topic, even though it was not a moderated question, of course the social democrat candidate had to bring up the topic more than once, which met with frenzied applause of approval from the left side of the room. Oddly that side was mostly elderly men and women, clearly beyond meaningful reproductive age, yet they were in almost rabid support of unfettered abortion practices with little or no government restrictions.
Socialist Democrats Support EV Mandates
The next issue that the social democrats cheered the most for was for EV mandates. Mike Linder spoke passionately about needing to limit fossil fuels, though he never explained WHY, why do we need to eliminate them? I think what socialist democrats forget is that fossil fuels may actually may be the most "green" energy around, as fossil fuel originates from dead plants exposed to heat and pressure over time. We humans, and most animals also live off of a similar form of energy as fossil fuels. For example, butter and butane are both hydrocarbons, as are olive oil and gasoline. I guess next social democrats will ban those too. Perhaps that's why socialist democrats want people to eat bugs.
Allowing Non-Citizens to Vote
The third top issue that really got the socialist democrats excited was voting rights for illegal residents. Mike Lindner supported widespread mail-in voting and permanent absentee voting. The socialist democrats in the room spoke amongst themselves professing their support of voting rights for non-citizens. And if you think this is just a concept for the democrats, Mike Lindner laid out the clear cut plan that social democrats have to accomplish this, which is to win two more house seats, so they can enact a constitutional amendment to force their agenda down the throats of all citizens. Yet, they would work "across the aisle." This socialist democrat challenger has zero intention of ever working to do what is best for the the citizens of Delaware, but rather, to force feed the liberal left agenda that will destroy Delaware and our country. True bullies.
Education
Another moderated question was on education in Delaware. Yes, the socialist democrat challenger wants more money for education, even though Delaware spends more money than 90% of other states per student. Money is always the solution with socialist democrats, which also means more taxes on the working middle class. In contrast, Dr. Hilvosky could not have demonstrated his dedication to education in Delaware better, by the work he has already done to help proficiency of graduating high school seniors in Delaware, especially in financial literacy.
What the 38th Will Do About This
Living in my happy Republican circles, I knew that radical socialist democrats existed, but I didn't really believe they were as radical as perhaps they were portrayed at times. But seeing is believing, and the radical socialist democrats are here. They love abortion, love government control and mandates (except for abortion), rule of force through tyranny and mob rule, and want those who can least afford to pay more, to cough up their last hard earned cent to pay for their feel good, social signaling agenda which will bankrupt Delaware.
Therefore, we will be supporting Dr. Hilovsky any way we can. Please email here info@38thdrcp.com if you can make phone calls to Republicans and Independents in the 4th District, and we will set up some door knocking there as well.
