Tom Speaks His Mind on Offshore Wind

Printed in the Coastal Point this week, Tom Molnar, Vice President of the 38th District Republican Club, let his thoughts be known on the issue of offshore wind coming to Delaware. This is exactly what we all need to do, speak up, speak loudly and speak frequently! This is how we will get out the Republican message and encourage others with common sense to stand up and put a stop to the nonsense, and vote!!. Send your letter to the editor next! I would like to take this opportunity to praise the Maryland legislators, these guys are on the ball. Unlike the legislators and unelected bureaucrats who run Delaware.

The Maryland legislators have persuaded our Delaware lawmakers that it is a great idea to bring the high tension cables that are connected to the proposed offshore windmill project and bury them in our inlet and one of our beaches. This may have an ill effect on aquatic life and and who knows what else.

In return the taxpayers of Delaware receive nothing in return.. All of the generated electricity will in stead be re routed to the state of Maryland. We will not receive one ounce. or electron from this project. How is that benefitting the taxpayers of Delaware?

Perhaps our legislators should go back to school and learn Economics, Math and History. among other things. but I would not recommend Delaware schools, as our National report card gives Delaware schools a rating of 48 out of 50 worst schools in the nation,at a cost of 20 thousand per student. I hate to use Maryland as an example but they are rated in the top 20 at a cost of 13 thousand per student.

I am proud to live in the state of Delaware, but I am skeptical of projects proposed by our ruling class. A few years ago they told us that Fisker electric vehicles, to be built in New Castle, in the old Chrysler assembly plant, would help create good paying Jobs for our state. That didn't last long. Fisker declared bankruptcy a few months ago. they are gone.. A not too long ago you could buy Fisker stock for 1 cent per share, that's 100 shares for a buck. I have never seen a Fisker car on the streets of Delaware, They have a bunch for sale, you could buy one cheap, look online.

Bloom energy was another venture that was going to be the greatest invention since sliced bread. Bloom would install a small generator at your household to be powered by Hydrogen or Natural gas, thereby. eliminating the power company. All of the electricity that you need would be generated on site. Sounds good. It also was a gigantic failure.

Do you have a Bloom Box? know anyone who does? Well guess what? You are paying for this failure also. Incidentally. both Fisker and Bloom are California corporations. Ever hear of Delafornia?

Now you can see why I am skeptical of the windmill projects, proposed by U.S. Wind, an Italian owned company.

At least we have some legislators and a local Mayor fighting to save our beaches and the Delaware economy. Be careful who you vote for, It will come back to bite you in your wallet.

Tom Molnar, Frankford

Subject: Deny Application from US Wind

Due to proceeding under another name and making no mention in notices of the application’s relationship to the offshore wind project, the public has failed to get adequate legal notice of US Wind’s plans – which have been at least two years in the making--or a fair opportunity to be heard on the pending County proceedings. This was deceptive and resulted in no public input in the rezoning process. In light of this, we urge Sussex County Council to do the right thing and deny the present application—at least until properly noticed proceedings, with opportunities for the public to review the project, can take place.

The project should ultimately be denied on its merits as well. While the present application only seeks a zoning change by the County, the entire project is relevant to the public interest of County residents. U.S. Wind’s proposed turbines will dominate the entire shoreline view, leading to lost tourism and lower property values. Noise from construction and operations will harass marine life, risking the extinction of whales and other endangered species.

Turbines interfere with radar, risking vessel collisions, Coast Guard operations, and reduced military security. Commercial fishermen will be forced to abandon fishing in lease areas. The consequences of the proposed use to support offshore wind development do not promote the prosperity or welfare of present or future inhabitants of Sussex County.

A recent poll of 14,000 property owners within one mile of the beach found that 86% oppose visible turbines. This project was based on Maryland Legislation, approved by the Maryland Public Service Commission, paid for by Maryland electric customers, and lies off Ocean City. Bringing power ashore and providing suitable substations are Maryland’s problems. Council’s denial should send this back to Maryland to solve.

I look forward to hearing back from you and how you will vote on this matter.
